Hi visibility clothing is everywhere. From eBay, to Amazon and even small independent high street stores, you’ll never struggle to find what you’re looking for, or will you?
In a heavily regulated workplace, conformance is vital. Staff are required to wear steel toe protective boots, hi-vis vests, jackets, hard-hats and more; depending on the particular environment one finds themselves in.
When it comes to hi vis clothing, all garments need to conform to EN471 (updated by ISO 20471). This is the European Standard which all hi visibility clothing needs to conform to before it is considered as offering the wearer the correct and suitable level of visibility and protection required. Within the standard, garments can conform to class 1, 2 or 3. The higher number denotes a higher level of protection required and afforded to the wearer where maximum visibility is required.
Can you put a price on safety?
So, going back to those hi visibility clothing items that can be found on eBay, Amazon and the like with those crazy low prices. Quite often, the reason these garments are so cheap is because they simple don’t conform to EN471 standards.
So while you might be saving a few pounds, the clothing may not be offering the correct level of protection required to meet the minimum standards. Our advice to all buyers out there.... Make sure you check that your hi visibility clothing meets safety standards before you buy!
One final note... We never sell a garment that doesn’t conform to the relevant standard required.
